Sarah, Student Intern

Emily, ESL Instructor

Sarah is a student at the University of North Florida, currently completing her final year in the Secondary English Education bachelor’s program. She joins One World English as a beloved intern and volunteer, where she observes and engages in classes to gain experience working with English Language Learners and learning from the instructors in the classroom.

Sarah has always aspired to become an educator and hopes to teach English as a second language to students both in the United States and abroad. Teaching has been her dream since childhood when she often coerced her brothers to play “school” with her.

Outside of the classroom, Sarah enjoys going to the beach, crafting and making jewelry, baking, surfing, and, most of all, traveling. She loves exploring new cultures and connecting with people from around the world.

Though Emily has called Florida home since 2008, she is an original Georgia Girl at heart! Emily graduated from the University of Georgia where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in both French and Speech Communication. She met her husband Mike in Jacksonville, and they have been happily married since 2011. Emily is the proud mom of two darling girls (and dog mom to one energetic fur baby).

After taking time to be a stay-at-home mom, Emily spent time tutoring literacy proficiency within St. Johns County School District. She now volunteers as an ESOL tutor and has recently earned her TEFL certificate. She is ecstatic to join the One World team alongside such a fantastic group of talented teachers. In her free time, Emily enjoys running, hiking with her family, volunteering at her daughters' school, trying delicious food, listening to audiobooks, and cheering on her Georgia Bulldogs.

Dorene moved to Florida in 2022 after living in California most of her life. She found her passion for teaching when she returned to school in her 50’s to finish her Bachelor ofArts degree in Spanish and linguistics from California State University, Sacramento. Itwas during her studies that she discovered the world of teaching English as a Second Language. She earned her Master of Arts is TESOL and her career has been exciting ever since. She is the epitome of the expression, “it’s never too late to learn”.

Dorene has taught at community colleges, universities, and high schools. One of her favorite teaching opportunities was teaching in the back-alley in Roatan, Honduras, where she set up a table and chairs and waited for her students to come. And they did! She finds that with an open heart and desire to help people learn, chances to teach are everywhere.

She is the proud mom of three adult children and recently became a grandma for the first time. She enjoys all the time she can spend with her family, loves to hike, enjoys the ballet and opera and loves to travel internationally. She recently hiked 500 miles across Spain on a personal pilgrimage with her daughter. She looks forward to the next adventure!
